-Turn RIGHT onto HWY 552 WEST
(landmarks to watch for along Macleod Trail as you approach this turn - your last set of light will be 194th, then you'll pass the "Spruce it Up Garden Centre" and head downhill passing signs for the "Calgary Polo Club" and "Calgary Firearm Centre", once you head back uphill it's your next RIGHT).

-Follow HWY 552; it will cross over railway tracks and you'll see 6 radio towers coming up on your right. Once you pass the towers, it's your next LEFT at 262 Ave (Eden Park Estates).

Trouble posting comments?

There have been several people who have contacted us to say that they have not been able to post a comment on this blog. We're not entirely sure why this is, one person suggested that you need to be a member of the website...?

We have two alternative solutions to offer for making contact with us or the Bosch family...

1 - Gord's obituary was published in the Calgary Herald today (July 4th). His obituary was also published online and includes a guest book where you can leave comments to the family or share your memories of Gord. We have set it up so that the comments will remain online permanently.

2- If you have questions or comments about the memorial event scheduled for July 13th, please email us at lauriecolbybell@hotmail.com

Thank you!

Please join us on July 13th to celebrate Gord

Thank you for your patience as we have been working hard to finalize the details of the celebration of Gord's life.

Anyone who knew Gord would understand that he would not have wanted a sombre event to commemorate his 66 years; his fun-loving spirit would want a celebration. We have decided to hold this celebration during one of the most celebratory weeks in Calgary, Stampede week. Gord had a love of Stampede week born from the many memories created down at the grounds, which included meeting his wife Sheila.

We are holding this event on our acreage in De Winton (about 1 mile south of the Calgary city limit) on Saturday, July 13th. This will be an open house style event so that we can accommodate as many people as possible.  We are, however, scheduling the eulogy and a catered supper, so those who may have other events earlier in the day or later in the evening might still have the opportunity to participate in the formal portion of the event.

This is a family friendly event with plans for childcare and plenty to keep the kids busy so the grown ups can have some uninterrupted time to share in their memories of Gord.

As a way to preserve Gord's legacy, we also ask that you consider writing down some of your favourite memories of Gord so we may collect and compile them for anyone in Gord's family who might want a copy. After the eulogy we will also be "opening the mic" to anyone who wants to read theirs aloud (or have it read). You can also choose to simply submit it to us if you prefer to have your thoughts remain private.
You can also visit the following website to leave your comments to the family or memories of Gord in the online guest book set up for obituaries posted in the Calgary Herald. It will remain online permanently.

Here is an outline of the event:

Address: 16207 262 Ave West (Eden Park Estates) De Winton AB(directions will be posted separately)
Attire - Western/Casual
(beware of high heels, this event is on grass)
Start time - 3:00pmWelcome address and eulogy - 5:00pm
Catered supper and "Lemonhart" toast - 6:00-7:00pm
End - when the beer is gone, the sun is down and you feel at peace

We understand that during Stampede week hotels can be limited and pricey. We are situated on 5 acres and are happy to accommodate anyone who would like to bring their RV, just let us know your needs.

If you have any questions about this event, please feel free to email us at lauriecolbybell@hotmail.com

We sincerely hope you can join us in our celebration of Gord's life.

Please follow the link below to RSVP so we may ensure that everyone is hosted in the best way possible, as Gord always did.

Obituary

Gordon Joseph Bosch June 23 1947 – June 28 2013

It is with a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Gord Bosch. Gord is survived by Sheila, his devoted wife of 20 years; his children Stacy (Andres) and Darren (Jackie); his step-children Andrea, Colby (Laurie) and Geoff (Kim); his adoring grandchildren Daniel, Mateo, Stella, Smith, Declan, Fiona, Catarina, Sage, Jack and Henry; and a large extended family including his siblings Diane, Wayne (Judith), Gary (Peggy) and Richard (Vonnie) and many nieces and nephews. Gord was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Helen of Marsden, SK.
Gord was born in Neilburg, SK and raised on the family farm in Marsden, SK. Trouble with asthma and allergies drove Gord away from farming and to the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (Moose Jaw) where he earned a Mechanical Technology Diploma. In 1970 Gord headed to Calgary, where he married his first wife Mauraine and started his career with Spartan Controls. Gord spent nearly 30 years with Spartan, where a former colleague described him as an amazing, fun-loving boss who gave great advice and was “at the core of the best time of our lives”. In 1999 Gord retired from Spartan and formed a highly successful heavy oil company, WinEagle Petroleum.
Although a man of the prairies, Gord was always connected to the water. In 1974 he began developing his second home and first love in Sylvan Lake. In 1992 Gord and Sheila began dividing their free time and eventually their retirement, between Sylvan Lake and Maui. Gord was an enthusiastic boatman and an avid paddler with the Kihei and Maui canoe clubs. Gord was well known as a jack-of-all-trades and was always willing to lend a hand or a hammer. Gord’s generous and hospitable spirit will be deeply missed by both communities.
In 2009, Gord suffered a massive stroke, leaving him and Sheila with new challenges. With his formidable work ethic left intact, Gord fought admirably to gain back a remarkable level of independence. His sudden cancer diagnosis, only weeks ago, came as a shock to all. His final days were spent in the gentle care of the Red Deer Hospice and surrounded by those who loved him.
-Gord, your path diverged from ours far too soon, but we will forever cherish the time we walked with you. Aloha.
In lieu of flowers, it is the family’s wish that donations be made in Gord Bosch’s name to the Red Deer Hospice.
